Dharmendra and family i.e. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol came together in Apne (2007), which was an emotional and family film; unfortunately it couldn’t create that much buzz at the box office. Then the trio came with Yamla Pagla Deewana which was an out and out comedy and became popular in masses because of the huge following which daddy and kids Deol have. Part 2 of Yamla Pagla Deewana wasn’t appreciated but they decided to work on part 3 (Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se) and thought that it would become an instant success in the masses. For those who are wondering what would be the story and plot of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, they don’t have to worry about it as this film has a weird and hard to believe plot which can easily be ignored once you know that you’ve been tricked into buying the ticket. There are numerous characters, most of them aren’t even needed and they try real hard to lead the story (or whatever you call it) ahead.

Performance wise, each one is as lethargic as the other is; the comparison between who did worse is one of the toughest questions. Dharmendra, being an okay-ish actor for so long still does nothing impressive or even acceptable to entice or entertain the audience. Sunny Deol tries to act cool just like he did in films like Joshilay or Singh Saab The Great, as he only knows one face to make when acting “Calm”. Bobby Deol tries to become the king of over-acting and he is painful to watch.

Shatrughan Sinha, who gave successful and memorable films with Dharmendra (like Loha, Aag Hi Aag, Hum Se Na Takrana, Zalzala and many others), is simply wasted as he has not interesting dialogues, even his “Khamosh” is not utilized properly in the film. Asrani being a veteran and knowing that he had no proper dialogues only entertains to those who’ve seen his earlier works or are fans of his distinctive ability to portray any character.

The music and the direction of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se are haywire. It looks like an attempt to add everything in the platter; it looks like multiple cuisines (Chinese, Indonesian, Pakistani, Indian, and American etc.) served in a platter yet all are tasteless.

There are subject oriented films, there are mass entertainers which have no logic and then there are films which fall under the category of Welcome To New York, Happy New Year, Happy Phir Bhaag Jayegi and Chalay Thay Saath & Wajood. Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se is one movie amongst such films which might have a good (read: decent) cast yet it fails to create any engagement for viewers and business for itself. At the box office, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se is a disaster. There is no entertainment value in the film and performances are horrid, exhausted and uninterested from performers’ end.

Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se is one film which can easily be skipped, definitely not a film on which cine-goer should spend any penny. The film in totality offers nothing at all. The only take away from the movie is the song “Rafta Rafta” that too because of Salman Khan and Rekha, although even in that particular song Salman Khan looks very dispirited in a few shots.

Do yourself a favor and skip Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se.
