Yasir Akhtar a name that needs no introduction especially for those who grew up in the 90s, he always has a charming screen appearances be it dramas, films or his video songs. Yasir comes up with a telefilm Rang Do Rangi. It is produced, directed and co-written by Yasir himself. Ayesha’s bride on the run seems a rip-off of Geet’s running scene in Jab We Met.

The starting of the film with Omar and Hamza’s introduction manages to catch the attention but then the other 20 minutes of Ayesha’s track are unbearable; full of irritating scenes, forced comedy and lame punch-lines. The Female lead Namra Shahid in the first half has given an extremely over the top performance which does not seem entertaining at all rather it seems annoying. Namra reminds me of Kajol (from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai), Alia Bhat (from Badrinath) more rather than Shehzori or Nadaan Nadia. Yasir Akhtar’s performance is solid and consistent throughout. Faizan Shaikh looks more of a comic caricature of the same character that he played in Heer Maan Ja, not much entertaining.

Shees is the star of Rang Do Rangi, his performance is super cute but considering in mind the story of Meray Paas Tum Ho, he seems type-cast. The house help Makhan played by Irfan Motiwala is cute comic relief, his portrayal as a soft man uttering eloquent Urdu is a real treat to watch. The execution of the film seems weak and flawed in some places. Few scenes seem shot in hastiness.  Music is soothing and appealing but not exceptionally good. Being a musician, Yasir Akhtar’s fans want to have great music from him; he has set a benchmark that is commendable.

Coming to the script of Rang do Rangi, I must say it does have a heart touching appeal besides having all the formula mixture of Rom-Com, the ending is not formula based, and it’s an open end. The father-son duo of Hamza and Omar, and their relationship is very well written and beautifully played by Yasir and Shees. However, being a telefilm the script is more filmy particularly Ayesha’s track is so overly done. The character of Ayesha’s father is not at all believable how come a father let her daughter live with a stranger? I believe it is the misuse of creative license.

Overall, Rang Do Rangi is an enjoyable film with all its flaws.
