Kangana Ranaut is one of those names in Bollywood which sounds synonymous to controversies, her latest movie Manikarnika recently released after facing so many controversies. Manikarnika is based on the real life story of Queen of Jhansi aka Rani Lakshmi Bai. Manikarnika features Kangana Ranaut in lead role i.e. playing the titular character. There are veteran actors like Kulbhushan Khanbanda, Suresh Oberoi, Atul Kulkarni and Danny Denzongpa. The film is said to be directed by Kangana, however Krish rubbishes this claim of hers by stating that it was he who directed the major chunk of the film. Let’s see what Manikarnika has in store for its viewers.

The story of Manikarnika revolves around how she marries the King and how she fights the foreigners and sacrifices her life for a better and free India. It’s a biographical film with little cinematic liberty in terms of storytelling and sequences which are added to suit the narration of the film as a whole.

Performance wise, Kangana Ranaut is fantabulous, she gives a sparking, probably one of her best best performances in this very film. The way she walks, speaks her dialogues and fights; Kangana looks fabulous and believable in every scene. Although, Manikarnika is loaded with Kangana’s screen presence, if the film is 2 hour 20+ minutes long, Kangana is there for like 2 hour 10 minutes (like literally)

From Atul Kulkarni and Suresh Oberoi to Kulbhushan Kharbana and Danny, everyone gets minimal screen presence but they all are effective in their characters and surprise their viewers.

Music by Shankar Ehsan and Loy is very good; it brings out the patriotic feel in viewers which is a success. Manikarnika has its fair share of pluses with a few minuses as well, it’s quite dragged and at times feels too forced.

If you are a fan of period films and Kangana Ranaut, you cannot afford to miss this movie. It’s not as good as Padmavat or Baaji Rao Mastani but it is a good effort.
