Govinda ruled Bollywood as Hero No. 1 in comic roles from 90’s to 2004. The second inning of Govinda started with Aa Gaya Hero but unfortunately because of obvious reasons the movie was a disaster at the box office. Govinda is back with another entertaining and comic caper titled Fryday with director Abhishek Dogra. From the trailer of Fryday, fans of Govinda got excited because they saw him in almost the same avatar which they used to love back in his prime. Let’s see what Fryday has to offer to its viewers and particularly Govinda’s fans.

Trailer: Fryday

The story of Fryday revolves around Varun Sharma who is a pathetic salesman and with the help of Sanjay Mishra he gets an entry in Govinda’s house to fix a water purifier. The day Varun decides to visit Govinda’s house the same day Govinda calls his girlfriend to add some spice in his life as his wife leaves the city for an important work. As soon as Govinda starts to get intimate with his girlfriend (Digangana Suryavanshi) doorbell rings and enters Varun. People start to visit the house one after the other and what happens next is what Fryday is all about.

The script (Rajeev Kaul / Manu Rishi Chadha) of Fryday is good, a little dragged and stretched at places but the able cast of the film saves it bigtime from getting bored. Direction by Abishek Dogra is pretty decent, as it’s not very easy to shoot more than 75% of the movie in one house. Keeping in mind that this is Abhishek’s second film as a director (first being Dolly Ki Doli) he has done a decent job.

Govinda is the savior of the enterprise. Govinda proves that he is, still, phenomenal in comic timing. Those who missed Govinda’s kind of humor and entertainment quotient from 90’s will definitely enjoy Fryday and Govinda’s performance. Govinda adds punchlines, long witty dialogues and his mimicry touch to the character of Gagan which he performs in the movie. Brijendra Kala as the confident and sarcastic thief is the highlight of the movie. All the scenes of Brijendra Kala are first rate. Sanjay Mishra in a short role is effective.

Varun Sharma is promising but type-casted; he delivers on the same lines of Fukrey, Dolly Ki Doli and Dilwale. Digangana Suryavansi is very nice; she should get better roles to display her talent.

Movie Review: Fryday

On the whole, Fryday is a typical Govinda entertainer, a no-brainer. It’s a clean comedy which can be enjoyed with family and friends. Don’t expect Oscar winning performances, script to die for or subject centric theme; Fryday is a mass-entertainer.
