75th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2018
The host Seth Meyers championed the incredible diversity of all the nominees and the winners at 2018 Golden Globe.
The 75th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday was a social commentary and an equal parts awards night that was attended by prominent personalities from showbiz and stars. This should also be brought into limelight this year’s Golden Globe was the first major event as the entire Hollywood was shook by a sexual harassment scandal that touch off a national movement.
The awards mostly revolved around highlighting the issue of Hollywood’s sexual misconduct dilemma. Seth Meyers, who succeeded Jimmy Fallon, touched the sensitive topic of sexual assault in Hollywood in his own style, articulating his opinions through witty jokes regarding harassment, to keep the environment light yet lively. Even though this was a challenging topic but he didn’t hold back at all.
He made his opening speech in a sarcastic manner saying, “Good evening ladies and the remaining gentlemen, ” he cracked a joke at the beginning of the show with a nod to all those male producers, actors and directors in limelight, who were blamed for their unacceptable behavior.
The actress Michelle Williams came along with the activist Tarana Burke, as her guest to the red carpet, the woman who started off the universal campaign #MeToo that highlighted on how widespread the sexual misconduct globally is.
In terms of fashion also the award show for this year was entirely scrutinized. From the red carpet that was radically about black gowns, signifying the solidarity of celebrities with the survivors and victims of sexual harassment, to the fist of the full fledge exclusive outfits of stalwarts of Hollywood at the award night. The veteran TV host Oprah Winfrey also expressed her views on this issue in her powerful speech.
There were many historical wins that happened on this year’s Golden Globes as well. Sterling K. Brown from “This Is US” took the honor of becoming the first ever black man to win an award in the category of best actor in TV Series drama. Aziz Ansari, on the other hand became the first one from Asia to be awarded with the Golden globe, for his astounding performance in a TV comedy category for his role in Netflix’s “Master of None.” Ansari also joked in his winning speech that he thought he wouldn’t win, because all the websites were guessing that he would lose.
