Ab Buss – A Short Film With Effective Narrative
We live in a country where religion is regarded as the most significant part of everyone’s’ life (at least that’s what everyone depicts) but keep religion aside, do we have people who practice moral and ethical values when left alone. If you want to know the personality and character of any person, observe them when they are alone. Unfortunately, as per news and everyday headlines we are surrounded by barbarians who slobber over women whether alone or with anyone accompanying them. In such times, it is much needed to raise voices from multiple platforms. One such voice is raised by SeePrime (a digital entertainment channel) through a short film titled Ab Buss featuring Sanam Saeed.
Ab Buss Short Film Review:
For a short film, it is integral to showcase a crisp, effective and solid narrative that engages the audience and doesn’t let them lose attention. Ab Buss is written thoughtfully by Shahid Dogar, dialogues are not stuffed unnecessarily and that is the beauty of this short film. The direction by Mohsin Talat is very realistic yet raw. From a woman’s point of view and what she goes through in the society, it isn’t easy to depict that tastefully and losing the dignity; Mohsin Talat successfully shows a scenario that is attentively imagined and remarkably conveyed visually. Usage of technology to safeguard oneself and plan things out to reach a destination without taking any unforeseen risk is highlighted really, a realistic touch that deserves an appreciation. Emphasis on the selection of knives and then grinding it against another one to sharpen it up, depicts the mental condition of what a woman must be going through – very elaborative.
Sanam Saeed gives another stellar performance where she doesn’t speak much but with her eyes, facial expressions and body movements engage the audience. A wonderful display of emotions – women will be able to relate to that promptly. Saeed clearly looks petrified but determined and that combination is not very easy to showcase on-screen. Special mention for the nerve wrenching outbreak of emotions, when she confronts in front of her husband, it’s clap-worthy. Sanam Saeed delivers a performance with such finesse.
Ab Buss is one short feature film that needs to be watched by all; it shares the strongest narrative and highlights the issues a woman in Pakistan goes through every day in her life. Round of applause for the entire team for coming up with such a sensitive topic and delivering it so profoundly. Watch it with your family and educate them that a woman is a responsibility and not a prey to chance encounter.
