It is very rarely seen that someone, especially big names of Bollywood, agrees to work in a movie for free. This just happened to Nandita Das when many actors agreed to work for free in her upcoming film Manto. This isn’t something assumed, it actually happened and Nandita Das shared about this in her recent interview, where she thanked her team of Manto for not only supporting her but showing generosity towards her. Manto is one of the most talked about films to come out from Bollywood because of multiple reasons. To start with, it features one of the finest unconventional talents of today’s time Nawazuddin Siddiqui playing the titular character of Saadat Hasan Manto and besides that there’s a huge cast to add weightage to the film.

In his own words, Nawazuddin, exclaimed that Rupee 1 is more for Manto and less for Nandita Das; these are the actors who live and breathe cinema, art and culture. Besides Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal who is one of the brilliant and versatile performers of Bollywood also showed his intentions to work for free in Manto. Rawal has an interesting character in the film as well, which he will enact in his unique style. Gurdaas Maan is the voice of Punjab in India, his songs are loved throughout and has a huge fan following all over the globe, even Gurdaas Maan will be seen in Manto, playing a character from Manto’s tales – Maan didn’t charge a penny for his role in Manto.

Rishi Kapoor is on a roll with his current inning, with films like Agneepath, 102 No Out and Mulk, Kapoor has managed to take his game to the next level effortlessly. Rishi Kapoor will not be charging a penny for Manto. Javed Akhtar, the veteran lyricist and writer will also act in Manto as a lawyer, and we’re sure that you won’t be surprised that he has also not charged anything from Nandita Das.

Actors like Divya Dutta, Ranvir Shorey, and Purab Kohli are also among those who have not charged anything for their characters which they will be playing in Manto.

We wish the entire team of Manto and Nandita Das all the very best; and hope that the film will do great at the box office. It will be interesting to watch how different Bollywood’s Manto will be in contrast to Pakistani Manto, which was another gem to come out of Pakistani Cinema.
