Salman Khan Films has produced quite a number of thought provoking films. The banner keeps bringing films that are based on the lives of common people. Films like Chillar Party and Notebook have already been appreciated for the kind of content. Kaagaz is the recently released film under the same banner, featuring Pankaj Tripathi in integral character. The film is written, conceived and directed by Satish Kaushik.

Kaagaz tells a story of a man who is declared dead on the paper. How he manages to fight for his identity, integrity and individuality is what Kaagaz is all about.

Pankaj Tripathi plays his part well but it’s such a pity to watch an intense and realistic actor enact very shallow lines. The script is the weakest part of the film. There are scenes where dialogues don’t make any impact. The intensity of the situation, in most of the scenes, is dealt with extra non-seriousness. Satish Kaushik’s character looks forced in many places. Extra screen time is given to him that looks like a fluff.

Monal Gajjar, as Pankaj’s wife, is effective but her character could have been a little juicier. She has the potential to become a prominent name in performance centric actors. Amar Upadhyay is wasted, he is a very talented actor but the character of Vidhayak is least impactful.

Direction of Kaagaz is strictly okay, there are no high points in the movie. The only saving grace of the film is Pankaj Tripathi, that too, to certain extent. Kaagaz is available on Zee5.

Kaagaz cannot be called Tripathi’s finest irrespective of the fact that he plays the lead character in the film. It offers a few good scenes here and there but in totality it’s a lengthy note on the piece of paper that could have been expressed in simpler and smaller sentences.
