There are a few stories which are farfetched and aren’t commonly seen in Bollywood. One of such stories is written by Akshat Ghildial and director Amit Ravindernath Sharma dared to make a film on it i.e. titled Badhaai Ho. With his second film as the director, Amit Sharma selected a very unusual subject along with the star-cast which is rock-solid for the subject oriented cinema. Ayushmann Khurrana is already known for selecting distinctive and unique films, Neena Gupta is a veteran, Surekha Sikri and Gajraj Rao are actors who invest in their roles with utmost sincerity. Badhaai Ho revolves around Kaushik’s family; father Kaushik (Gajraj Rao) is a middle class TT in the railways, who loves his wife Priyamvada (Neena Gupta) and two kids Nakul (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Gullar (Shardul Rana). They all live in a small apartment with their grandmother (Sureka Sikri). Their lives take an interesting and shocking turn when Priyamvada gets pregnant. How they share this with Kaushik’s mother and their children makes the film a treat to watch.

The backbone of Badhaai Ho is its crisp, to the point, believable and spontaneous script. Dialogues are full of punches, realism and have the tendency to make viewers laugh, smile and cry. Besides a clap worthy and fine script, the direction by Amit Sharma is first rate. Amit has improved a lot in comparison to his first (last) movie Tevar. Music is okay and helps the movie to progress.

Ayushmann Khurrana is in his finest form yet again after Andhadhun. Khurrana is one of the most potential and believable actors in Bollywood who adds zing to his character, no matter how challenging or similar it is to what he performed earlier. Neena Gupta is wonderful. She gives one of the most memorable performances of her career. Gajraj Rao is a treat to watch. The actor handles a complex character with utmost ease. Surekha Sikri is adorable. Rest of the cast is decent as well.

Badhaai Ho is not just a fun film; it also highlights how family should stand together when it’s needed. The film is about loving and respecting your significant one. How relationships should be carried forward. Badhaai Ho is a family entertainer and caters to everyone.
