Baaji is amongst the most anticipated films to come out from Pakistani cinema. Film fraternity and audiences had high expectations from Saqib Malik’s directorial debut because of many reasons, ranging from brilliant cinematography, scenic scenes and performances to songs shown in the trailer and teaser of the film. Baaji is Meera’s grand comeback, although she was last seen in films like Shor Sharaba and Jackpot (in came) which were disasters at the box office. Will Meera be able to impress her audience, will Saqib Malik be able to live up to the expectations of his viewers; let’s find out.

Trailer Baaji:

Baaji revolves around Shameera (Meera) who is an ageing superstar and in no way accepts that her stardom has ended. Industry seems to run away from her and no one wants to associate them with her. Circumstances make her meet Neha (Amna Ilyas) who soon becomes her manager and starts to bring her back in the industry. Rohail Khan (Osman Khalid Butt) enters in the life of Meera as a Hollywood-return filmmaker and he wants to make a film with her. For Shameera, Rohail Khan’s film is the last hope for her to get back in the game. What happens after that is what Baaji is all about; a journey of trust, love, shallowness and fear all encapsulated in one.

Performance wise, Meera is impeccable. Meera breathes the character of Shameera and adds life to it. She looks gorgeous, graceful, helpless and goes through insecurity with utmost ease. There is a scene where she compares her skin with Amna’s, there aren’t any dialogues involved in that scene of hardly 20-seconds but the way she expresses herself is flawless. This is by far Meera’s most astounding and memorable performance till date.

Amna Ilyas looks chic, sexy, and has the swag; she expresses with her eyes and her facial expressions are spot on. Amna is one of those actresses who has the potential to become the next superstar, provided she selects the right kind of roles. She dances effortlessly and her moves are both worth a watch and appreciation – she looks so natural in each frame. The transformation she shows in Baaji, through her character is ‘wow’.

Ali Kazmi as Rameez and Osman Khali Butt as Rohail Khan are both good and do justice with their characters. Ali Kazmi, as antagonist is impressive, his looks, gestures and attitude make it all an amazing performance from him. Mohsin Abbas Haider has limited screen presence but he makes the maximum out of it – he looks awesome and acts very well. Nisho Begum is decent.

Nayyar Ejaz looks menacing, plotting, manipulative and cunning; h gives a bravura performance and uses his voice and expressions to match the character he plays. In Baaji, Nayyar Ejaz is brilliantly utilized by Saqib Malik. Music of Baaji is engaging, entertaining and relevant to the story of the film.

Saqib Malik enters the film industry with a bang, he gives his best and the audience is already loving the film. The strength of Saqib lies in giving apt roles to the actors he roped in, one director who can get the right expressions from his actor. He is a true example of how captain of the ship should be like. In the face of Baaji, Saqib delivers one of the finest Pakistani film which can easily be showcased internationally without thinking for a tiny fraction of second.
