After Ho Mann Jahan, Asim Raza and Sheheryar Munawar teamed up again and have brought Parey Hut Love for their audience this Eid Ul Azha. Right after the release of the trailer of Parey Hut Love, the film received mixed responses based on the way different elements were shown in the trailer. Later when the songs of the films released from Haye Dil Bechara to Ek Pal and Morey Saiyaan to Balma Bhagora some liked them and some thrashed them straight away. Finally the film is released; let’s discover what Asim Raza, the maestro of advertising world, has to offer through his film.

Just like Ho Mann Jahaan Parey Hut Love also narrates the story of the youth, last time it was about friendship and passion, and this time it is about passion and romance. The amazing thing about Asim Raza’s recent venture is that it is visually astounding and every frame inspires its audience. One should learn from Raza how to work on minute detailing and opt for definite color pallets to make a scene stand out not only through performers, dialogues but also through color strokes. Sets are lavish and they look grand on silver screen. A few scenes are beautifully directed with poetic touch, something that is hard to find in Pakistani cinema, since the revival scene. One scene (out of many) to point is when Nadeem pens down his last poem – that is so very poetic.

Performance wise Maya Ali handles her character with maturity, the 1 film old actress impresses in her second film in almost every scene. Besides looking elegant, charming and graceful which is the also the requirement of the character, Maya proves that she can, without a doubt, be the next ‘Superstar’ of Pakistani cinema, provided she selects good films with greater directors. After Project Ghazi, I was a little skeptical about Sheheryar Munawar but he has come a long way and it’s evident in Parey Hut Love – he is not the best but definitely not the worst. There are scenes in Parey Hut Love which don’t make impact at all and then there are also a few scenes where he excels. He is one actor who needs time and challenging roles to keep flexing his performance muscles. Mahira Khan is a brief role (precisely 3 to 4 scenes is fabulous). Mahira gets few lines but they all are very strong ones and she takes them to next level with her performance and delivery.

Nadeem Baig, the legendary actor, gets a decent character and he performs it quite well. After Superstar, watching him in Parey Hut Love is a treat. Ahmed Ali Butt excels in one scene particularly where he lashes out on Sheheryar Munawar and completely owns the scene with gusto. Zara Noor Abbas is just okay. Hina Dilpazir is loud as usual, trying to bring “Quddusi Saheb Ki Bewa” on silver screen.

Paey Hut Love is about how a boy meets a girl and falls for her but things don’t go as they should and what happens next is what the film has to offer to its viewers amidst of 3 weddings divided in to 4 chapters.

The story of Parey Hut Love is a little half-baked, perhaps in the days where every film is advised to have 15 to 20 minutes chopped off; Parey Hut Love is one film which should have more time so that a few ambiguities in the story could have been solved. Most of the comedy scenes were a little too loud and forced which don’t go with the flavor of the film and class that was shown in the film. Glitches in the character buildups seem to be amongst the basic problem of PHL. The tensed relationship between Sherry and his father, the track and relationship between Maya and her fiancé plus the climax where the grand wedding takes a grand turn are all a few things which could have made a huge impact if a little detailing and reasoning would have added to them.

On the basis of great visuals which are hard to find in any Pakistani film, good music and a few performances here and there I rate Parey Hut Love a good 3 out of 5 stars. If you want to watch a film which looks like a film and not drama then Parey Hut Love will probably be liked by you.
