HUM TV’s Ranjha Ranjha Kardi Is A Surprise Package

Pakistani dramas can surprise you when you least expect them to do so. Last week I saw the banner of HUM TV’s latest drama serial Ranjha Ranjha Kardi and from the first glance I thought it was an updated take on 1970’s successful movie Khilona directed by Chander Vohra. I am a huge fan of Sanjeev Kumar and this movie of his is my favorite. I am very selective in watching drama serials but I took the time out and watched the first episode of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, to my surprise

a) The first episode didn’t give me any hint of Khilona

b) Iqra Aziz’s performance is lit and very believable

c) The pace of the drama is very fast and there is no dull moment which audience experiences in first episode.

The first episode of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi introduces Noori (Iqra Aziz), a spontaneous and determined Christian girl who is brought up in a house where she is a total misfit. She is shown unlike his mother and sibling and she has a desire to study and excel in her life. Amma Jannate is Noori’s mentor since childhood, as shown in the first episode, she teaches her everything that she can and Noori follows her with great zeal. In the first episode it’s shown that Amma Jannate arranges a job for Noori in the city and she travels to the city and starts her new life with passion and enthusiasm.

The character of Noori is very carefully and minutely written by Faiza Iftekhar and the director (Kashif Nisar) showcases her traits with utmost clarity. Iqra Aziz adds zing to the character of Noori with her raw performance and her emotional scenes are a treat to watch. The fine elements of her personality are luminously depicted in the first episode and they have helped bigtime in shaping up the character of Noori so nicely.

There are a few other characters which are shown in the episode and their characters are also built up very well. Syed Jibran’s character also seems interesting with shades of grey, at least that’s how it’s showcased. Let’s see how his character turns out but Jibran’s performance is good.

The drama Ranjha Ranjha Kardi is engaging, free from dull moments and loaded with great performances which are hard to find these days. The story of this drama is also attention grabbing. I enjoyed the first episode of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi and am waiting for the second one.
