One of the most awaited dramas Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay released recently. The drama is written by Umera Ahmed and is directed by Farooque Rind. The drama features Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan, Haroon Shahid, Usman Mukhtar, Zainab Qayum, Ali Tahir, and Laila Wasti as pivotal characters. The first episode of the drama established the characters and sheds some light on the premise by depicting the backstory of every character. Direction wise there are a few scenes that get the audience’s attention and put across the message clearly, without failing. There is a heavy dose of emotions in the drama and it is expected that this drama might have a lot of “rona dhona” and plotting of conspiracies etc. The usual stuff with a tangent of romance, jealousy, revenge, and family politics with women empowerment infused in the narrative at one point or the other.

The story, in the first episode, is narrated by Usman Mukhtar where he takes the audience back to 15 years back (roughly) by emphasizing how and why things change in the lives of three kids i.e. Mehreen (Mahira Khan), Mashal (Kubra Khan) and Aswad (Usman Mukhtar). Decisions and actions of parents have impacts on kids, this is the crux of the narrative that was shared in the first episode. The drama is based on Umera Ahmed’s novel with the same title Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay. According to some, this drama reminds them of a 2002 Bollywood movie Mujhse Dosti Karoge featuring Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee, and Kareena Kapoor – but to all those who are speculating this, let’s wait till the entire story unfolds and we have the characters reveal themselves.

Mehreen’s father commits suicide and she starts to live with her uncle’s family, his daughter Mashal doesn’t like her, and Mehreen’s mother marries someone else. What happens after that accident is what the foundation first episode created for the viewers. There is a scene where Mehreen is shown riding on top of a public bus, which looks a little off as it’s a little too much to digest. The tussle between Mehreen and Mashal is depicted in the very first episode of Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay and this sets the basics of the premise as well.

Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay Episode 1

There are a few good performances here and there in the first episode of Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, Ali Tahir, Zainab Qayyum, and Mahira Khan perform their part well. Omair Rana’s one scene is brilliantly directed, the bond between a father and daughter will make the audience feel sorry – and emotional. Laila Wasti’s outburst is a scene to watch out for. There is a hope that the drama will be a decent watch with little to zero flashbacks that are shown repeatedly and unnecessary buildup to kill the effectiveness of the narration. The second episode will tell how Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay will shape up in the future.
