Haseena Moin needs no introduction – she was one of the most prolific and astounding play-writers of Pakistan. Haseena Moin’s drama introduced empowered women in lead characters, long before the term “Women Empowerment” became a buzzword. With characters like Zara from Tanhaiyan, she inspired girls to go after their dreams, with Sana Murad from Ankahi, Haseena Moin set an example that even happy-go-lucky, careless and outspoken girls can handle serious situations in life and with Aahat, she portrayed how important is a woman’s mental and physical health are. All these dramas aired between 80s’ to 90s’ when progressive writing was at its peak because of writers like Haseena Moin. Haseena Moin passed away on 26th of March 2021. The 79 years old play writer will always be regarded as one of the most influential and respected drama writers of Pakistan.

On her sad demise, everyone from Pakistani drama fraternity expressed their sorrows on Twitter

#HaseenaMoin ‘s passing is a loss for the whole country. Her plays were groundbreaking especially in the portrayal of women – something we unfortunately don’t see in our plays now. My one regret is that I never got the chance to work with her. My condolences to her family. RIP
