Enaaya – Dragged Story And Abrupt Climax
It’s a positive sign to witness Pakistani filmmaker enter in the world of web-series for the first time, Wajahat Rauf’s very first web series titled Enaaya is available on EROS NOW. Enaaya features Mehwish Hayat in titular character along with other actors like Azfar Rehman, Faryal Mehmood, Rabab Hashim, Asad Siddiqui, Waqar Gothra etc. Enaaya is available on EROS NOW; the 12 episode web series is written and directed by Wajahat Rauf who earlier directed films like Karachi Se Lahore and Lahore Se Aagey. Let’s see what 6 hours long Enaaya has in store for its viewers.
Trailer: Enaaya
The story of Enaaya revolves around Enaaya (Mehwish Hayat) who lives with her mother, after her father leaves them. Enaaya moves to Karachi from Lahore and befriends with Maryam (Rabab Hashim), soon she was heard singing in the auditorium by Jimmy (Azfar Rehman) and his band mates Rasiq (Asad Siddiqui) and Mikoo (Waqar Godhra), who try their best to convince Enaaya to join their music band as the lead vocalist. They form a band and start to play together. Faryal (Faryal Mehmood) doesn’t like her boyfriend (Jimmy) giving attention to Enaaya. What happens once Enaaya enters in the band, how Enaaya manages to pursue her dream to become a singer and whether Jimmy and Enaaya develop feelings for one another, you need to watch the web series Enaaya on Eros Now.
Performance wise, Enaaya rests on the shoulders of Mehwish Hayat; she looks good, performs well and in a few places goes too loud. There are multiple shades in the character of Enaaya which Hayat pulls off quite well. Azfar Rehman doesn’t impress as his character is not given the shades and larger canvas. He plays the chocolaty boy and performance wise has nothing to offer much. Faryal Mehmood acts well in a few scenes where she shows her outbursts and anger. Rabab Hashim and Asad Siddiqui are effective.
Waqar Godhra performs awfully bad, ditto for the actress playing Enaaya’s mother. Rest of the cast doesn’t make any impression. Besides having a theme of musical, this web-series fails to deliver good music. None of the songs from the web series are good enough. These songs don’t have the repeat value.
The script of Enaaya is very weak and it lacks the ability to make audience glued to their seats. There aren’t interesting twists and turns, which are must-haves for any web series these days. The story which is divided in 12 episodes (25 minutes each), doesn’t seem well-penned and this is the reason why at many places this web series looks very dragged and slow-paced. There aren’t any interesting dialogues or punchlines which stay with the viewers. Jokes fall flat and don’t make an impact. It leaves you confused, wondering so many questions – which aren’t obviously answered. Will there be another season of Enaaya? If yes then why? As the first season fails to engage its audience.
Watch Enaaya Review:
The only good thing about this web series, besides Mehwish Hayat’s performance, is that it made Pakistani entertainment industry to enter in to the world of web series and after this, it is expected that many filmmakers and directors will venture in web series as well. But the key to a successful web series is its content on which they should really work hard.
