Farhan Akhtar is a smart producer, most of his films are very viable affairs and as an actor, he has proved his mettle with films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Luck By Chance. Toofan is recently released on Amazon Prime and is receiving mixed reviews from different parts of the world. Toofan is based on boxing, how the passion for respect and regard is fueled with the interest of boxing take a man’s life to unexpected routes and turns. Aziz Ali aka Ajju Bhai (Farhan Akhtar) is a small town hooligan who works under Vijay Raaz, and accidentally meets Dr. Ananya (Mrunal Thakur) and things start to change a little. Later, Ajju Bhai is introduced to the world of boxing by Bachchan Bhai and that changes his life. Ajju develops keenness for boxing and Bachchan bhai makes him meet Nana Prabhu (Paresh Rawal), the Kingmaker in the boxer’s world. Nana is racist deep down there but Ajju’s dedication to boxing and embrace Izzat (respect) makes him train him for the championship. What happens after Aziz Ali’s first victory changes the lives of Nana, Ananya, and Aziz himself. Explore that by watching the movie.

Farhan Akhtar once again proves that he is one of the most dedicated and hardworking actors in Bollywood. His transformation is crazy and his performance is top-notch. In many scenes, he excels and makes his audience chuckle and gets teary-eyed with the same ease. Paresh Rawal has some brilliant lines with him, especially in the first half. Paresh Rawal delivers his part with absolute brilliance.

Hussain Dalal has come a long way from a model in ads to the writer (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) to Toofan as Munna. If given good and character-centric scripts to him, he will keep proving his diversity. He brings smiles to every scene. Mrunal Thakur is effective. Supriya Pathak is underutilized. An actor like Vijay Raaz is brutally underutilized.

With Aks, Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra have proved himself as a director who knows his craft and he has a way of sharing stories in his style. Although the story of Toofan reminds many of Sultan (Salman Khan starrer) but the execution and direction are different by all means. It is not easy to tell a story with similar traces in a different manner and Mehra has done a good job.

It has been witnessed that films that have been made on boxing like Boxer, Apne, Mary Kom, Saala Khadoos, and Mukkabaaz didn’t do well at the box office but it also doesn’t mean that all these films are badly made or didn’t have the entertainment value with emotional burst attached to them.

Unfortunately, Toofan might face the same liver shot or uppercut and be knocked out. But for Bollywood fanatics and fans, Toofan is every bit enjoyable based on the performances, dialogues, songs, and twists and turns. Yes, it’s predictable and at times hard to believe too but that’s what cinematic liberty is.
