Thugs Of Hindostan – Lord Of The Lames

Thugs of Hindostan is amongst the most awaited films to come out of Bollywood this year. Fans of Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan were very excited when they first saw the trailer of the movie. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya (who previously directed films like Dhoom 3 and Tashan) under the banner of Yash Raj Films, Thugs of Hindostan features Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana and Zeeshan Ayub along with Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Let’s see what this film has to offer to its audience.

Trailer: Thugs Of Hindostan

The story revolves around why and how Khudabakhsh aka Aazaad (Amitabh Bachchan) along with his gang including Zafira (Fatima Sana) tries to get rid of British rule. Firangi Mallah (Aamir Khan) is given a task by British Lord to find Aazaad and get him and his gang arrested. What happens when Firangi enters the army of Aazaad is what Thugs of Hindostan is all about.

It is very unfortunate that the script of Thugs of Hindostan is very mediocre. Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan deserved better script, better storytelling and engaging story; Thugs of Hindostan offers nothing out of these. There aren’t any high voltage scenes between the two legendary actors which is another minus of the film. The film hugely reminds of films from 70’s and 80’s where logic and common-sense was mostly lost in many films.

Amitabh Bachchan performs well but looks very fatigued. Aamir Khan is good but this time he uses his eyes to convey his message and express himself as an actor. Katrina Kaif is there for only item song and that’s all about it, she is the eye-candy in the film i.e. a prop. Fatima Sana Shaikh needs to brush up her emotional skills. Zeeshan Ayub is effective.

For some, it’s not actually a surprise that ToH is such a lousy attempt because previous 2 films which Vijay Krishna Achrya made were equally on the same track. Tashan was literally pathetic and Dhoom 3 was Aamir Khan’s one man-show. With a huge banner, Acharya is lucky to make bad films repeatedly.

Th music of Thugs of Hindostan is hardly noticeable, minus Katrina Kaif from the song Suraiyya Jaan Legi Kia and people will forget this one as well. Special mention for the Falcon which is used in the film as Allah-Rakha – the sound of it and presence of it, both are cringe-worthy. Such antics were common is 70’s and 80’s films. Even in Coolie. Amitabh Bachchan had a Falcon named Allah Rakha but that was the time when audience was forgiving and not exposed to world. Acharya needs to understand his audience.

MovieReview: Thugs Of Hindostan

On the whole, Thugs of Hindostan is an uninteresting, protracted and full of blunders film which will only be watched by the fans of Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan – rest will happily skip it. The film does not offer any repeat value in terms of performances, dialogues or music.
