Trailer: Punjab Nahi Jaungi

Punjab Nahi Jaungi revolves around Fawad Khagga (Humayun Saeed) who passes his M.A. in Political Science in 10 years and returns to his ancestral home in Faisalabad. His mother (Saba Hameed) shows him Amal’s (Mehwish Hayat) picture and he falls in love with her. Amal is a London return, Karachi based modern girl who believes in “understanding” more than love. And she has a very good understanding with Wasay (Azfar Rehman). What happens next is what Punjab Nahi Jaungi is all about. It is a family drama with a dash of romance all over it; served with light-hearted humor.

Performance wise, every character in the film stands tall. Naweed Shahzad is a veteran and with her looks and simply deep dialogues, she makes her audience fall in love with her performance as “Beebo Jee”. Sohail Ahmed is the scene stealer; every dialogue of Sohail Ahmed is clap-worthy. He nails his character with utmost ease. Humayun Saeed is probably be the only “Star” of Pakistani cinema who is backed with some exceptional acting skills. Right from his first scene till the climax, Saeed carries the entire film on his shoulder with gusto. His transformations from jolly to intense scenes, and back and forth, are amazing.

Mehwish Hayat is gorgeous and hell of talented. She enacts the character of Amal beautifully. Mehwish is probably the only actress in the recent times, in Pakistani film industry, who can be compared to class of Madhubala and Madhuri Dixit. You have to watch Punjab Nahi Jaungi to believe it. Urwa Hocan does a decent job, and looks her character. Ahmed Ali Butt if effective, Azfar Rehman is okay.

Dialogues, by Khalil Urrehman Qamar, are smashing. If you are looking for a film with deep, meaningful and beautifully knitted dialogues then Punjab Nahi Jaungi will be a treat to watch for you. The direction by Nadeem Baig is superlative. He proves his command with every scene he captures. Five scenes which stand out in Punjab Nahin Jaungi are:

  • When Sohail Ahmed talks about the proposal of Fawad for Amal with Naweed Shahzad – A brilliant scene!
  • When Saba Hameed tells her son on the phone that she joked about the entire proposal thing
  • The rain scene where “Help Me Durdana” sequence takes place
  • The dining table scenes where Humayun Saeed tells his family why he couldn’t control himself
  • The speech in the climax, by Humayun Saeed.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi is a decent family entertainer. It has all the ingredients to rule at the box office. If you are a fan of good dialogues, clean entertainers, good humor and brilliant acting then you won’t be disappointed with Punjab Nahin Jaungi.
