Jab Harry Met Sejal – Nothing Solid To Offer
Shahrukh Khan is a generation; he isn’t known as King Khan for decades just like that. When Shahukh is on screen, his fans are head over heels for him. So, talking about the story, whether the film makes sense or no; or have connection with reality are all such things which don’t apply on King Khan. Imtiaz Ali is known for some amazing films which were backed with strong character buildings and flawless storytelling skills. Anushka Sharma is outstanding when it comes to performances and living up to the character; gather them all and Jab Harry Met Sejal is ready to be served. Let’s dig what the film has to offer.
Harry (Shahrukh Khan) is a tourist and one day a family appoints him as their tourist guide. When the family leaves to India and Harry bids them good-bye, Sejal (Anushka Sharma) walks out of the airport and tells Harry that she misplaced her engagement ring because of which her fiancé got furious and she has to find it. Harry tries to convince her to catch her flight with her family else she’ll miss it but adamantly Sejal refuses and from there starts the story of tourist guide who is forced to find the engagement ring of Sejal and help her through his superiors. What happens next is what you have to watch it yourself.
The story of Jab Harry Met Sejal reminds of Love Aaj Kal, DDLJ, and in some places Dil Chahta Hai. It’s a mix-bag of multiple films and unfortunately offers nothing new or unique. Even the scenes at times remind of Tamasha. The character building is weak this time. The complexities start to get too confusing. Anushka’s character is half-baked. The story has many loopholes.
Performance wise, Anushka Sharma is at her best, from diction to accent and from body language to expressions, she knows her game. Shahrukh Khan is as usual. His fans will again love him in the same avatar for which he is known for the last 25 years or may be more i.e. the “Palat – Palat – Plat” guy. But he looks very old in most of the scenes. Rest of the cast is just okay.
Songs are stuffed in the film – at least 2 songs could’ve easily been chopped off along with 15 – 20 minutes as the film gets quite dragged in bits.
Jab Harry Met Sejal is just an okay film in terms of freshness, script, and storytelling but Shahrukh Khan’s fans will love it because – they love him for the intensity and romance along with some silly jokes and these are all in the film. So, if you are a die-hard Shahrukh Khan fan go watch it; else skip.
