“Family! What A Load of Shit” – Cake Trailer Review

It’s been quite some time that Pakistani cinema has seen a film which talks about relationships, as they are – complicated, sweet yet unbearable at times, our film industry in at one point is busy in making masala entertainers (like Na Maloom Afraad, Wrong No.), total rip offs of Indian films (like Balu Mahi, Zindagi Kitni Haseen hai and Chupan Chupai etc.) and subject oriented films (like Shah, Manto, Azad). This time, Pakistani cinema will be witnessing a slightly different genre which isn’t exposed to desi audience by a desi team of film makers. Yes, the trailer of Cake gives a good flavor of that sort. Cake’s trailer released yesterday and it’s very well received by classes and mature audiences. Here’s the trailer of Cake.

Trailer: Cake

The trailer is definitely impressive keeping the three elements in focus:

  • Script / Dialogues
  • Performances
  • Cinematography

The trailer of Cake looks fresh for Pakistani audience, although some people are comparing it with Kapoor And Sons and Piku; well, at this point, I don’t want to draw any similarities between then because I want to watch the film and then decide. The good thing about the trailer of Cake is that it doesn’t giveaway the storyline but keeps viewers engaged. Everyone can tell that Cake is about relationships, family ties and complications. The film features finest performers of today’s time like Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed, Beo Raana Zafar and Mohammed Ahmed along with Adnan Malik and Mikaal Zulfiqar.

The dialogues in the trailer are impressive. The background score is also very pleasant and sounds good as per the mood of the film. Cake is written and directed by Asim Abbasi. Cake will Asim’s debut full length feature film, prior to this he made quite a few short films which were critically acclaimed. His short film Whore won “audience award” for the best short film. From the look of the trailer of Cake it is definitely not everyone’s cup of authentic coffee. I’ll be looking forward to watch this film. The film is releasing on 30th March 2018.
